On Wednesday February 17, 2010 Spain’s first solo exhibition for American artist KAWS will open at the Galeria Javier Lopez in Madrid.

His work is a mixture of the images and information that bombards our senses on a daily basis. By reinterpreting and repurposing these visual products of culture KAWS has developed his own artistic language by which he can address contemporary culture. KAWS undermines familiar sentiments of popular culture and offers a disconcerting vision of quotidian idols and advertisements. His work simultaneously navigates through and deconstructs socially accepted definitions of design, consumerism, urban culture, and the fine arts.
His signature X-ed out eyes illuminates the transitory nature of pop culture by combining imagery with concepts of mortality and ultimately suggests the collapse of popular culture as we know it.
