This is the first stencil poster Sten & Lex did directly on the street in via Reggio Emilia, in Rome, for the occasion of the Exhibition STEN+LEX - Matrix at Mondo Bizzarro Gallery. Read the press release:

Sten+ Lex: Everyone has seen their work on the scraped fronts of many Roman buildings, on the roller shutters of closed stores, on the pillars of the overpasses. From the small, ironic stencils that suddenly show up to the big works that strike the imagination and the heart at least as much and even more then the architectural elements that host them.

Their works show an apparent simplicity and an undeniable freshness that made them extremely popular among the "Civil population" , as well as among fans of street and urban art, the young kids in the suburbs, and the art dealers looking for emergent artists.

Stand out in their careers the institutional commissions, the last one (April 2010), a work on a house in the Roman district Garbatella, also their bigger work (26 meters). In 2008 they attended the Can's Festival in London, invited by the renowned British artist Bansky. During the early months of 2010 they had a solo exhibition in Paris, at the Galerie Itinerrance and another one in Rome, at the gallery Co2. Also in 2010 the publishing house Drago issued a monograph on their work. They participated in many group exhibitions all over the world: Milano, Brighton, Strasbourg, Palermo, Napoli, Berlin, London, New York, Paris, Siena, Vienna and Dallas.

The exhibition at the Mondo Bizzarro Gallery will display works purposefully made for the exhibit with the technique they invented and named Stencil Poster: portraits of anonymous people from the Sixties to the Eighties will decorate different surfaces, all of ordinary use (detergent boxes, banknotes, newsprint, stamps, plastic).

Sten+Lex are a couple of incurable total artists, such is their commitment to their work and their art. The streets of Rome will welcome them, the city walls are waiting for them. It may happen to hear some conversations at the bar regarding their new work, freely given to everyone to see. It may happen to end up in an evening of music that celebrates the international poster-art and find them among the promoters. It may happen you leave your house one morning and discover that your building is become more fascinating during the night thanks to Sten + Lex.
