Djamel Tatah was born in Saint-Chamond, France and currently lives and works in Paris. Tatah works primarily with photography and encaustic painting. Through these media Tatah reduces his subjects to shadows of their former selves.
He focuses on the gestures and expressions of the highly stylized and isolated human figures, which emphasizes their condition in a seemingly solitary world. His work investigates issues relating to the sublime state of the real and the imaginary and tradition and change in the age of globalization.
