I Mutanti is the exhibition catalog for the Villa Medici exhibition of the same title. The catalog is made up of five volumes that correspond to the five artists participating in the show. This five-volume catalog represents the work of the some most controversial and thought-provoking artists of the 21st century. Each fifty-six-page volume can be acquired individually or together as the full collection. Each book includes a montage of over 25 full color images prepared by the respective artist and texts in three languages (French, Italian, and English) by Villa Medici director, Eric de Chassey.
Adel Abdessemed was born in Constantine, Algeria and currently lives and works between New York and Paris. His work is greatly influenced by the civil strife and political repression that he witnessed in Algeria.These images have abandoned the possibility of creating beauty through embellishment, but rather attempt to transform violence into beauty. Abdessemed works primarily with video, photography, installation, and performance to create unexpected and controversial artistic statements about the world.
